There is something special about a black and white photograph. They automatically feel timeless, important, more avant-garde. While I am not all that familiar with the psychological impact of viewing a monochrome image, I know they resonate with me in a very strong way… maybe even more so than a color image. I do believe that the decision to make a black and white image should be in the field rather than a conversion in the digital darkroom. By observing the light, the contrast and subject, a photographer should be able to make this decision and shoot accordingly. Below are some of my images which were shot in black and white, because that is how I chose to make the photograph in the field.
